All victim advocates need to attend a 37.5 hour in class basic advocacy training in order to advocate for victims. The goals and objectives for the training are as follows:


  • Identify the prevalence of domestic violence 
  • Discuss the eight aspects of domestic violence as modeled in the Power and Control Wheel 
  • Identify common characteristics of perpetrators
  •  Discuss barriers that keep victims in abusive relationships 
  • Determine the effects of domestic violence on children 
  • Identify available treatment options
  • Identify risk factors for dangerous situations 
  • Discuss safety planning with domestic violence victims
